| Social media in your (new) home |

Every day people are finding new ways to use social media. This advertising agency took customizing a showhome to a whole other level. People were allowed to register for showhome tours via Facebook, and their personal data as used to customize the showhome tour. Have a look at the results: When I watched this video I felt mixed emotions - awe and apprehension. While this use is pretty innocent I can see something like this being misused pretty easily. (Not to mention the fact that there are definitely some Facebook pictures I'm sure parents wouldn't want their kids walking into a room and seeing, nudge, nudge, wink, wink...) I think this would be an interesting kit to create for people, though. You could offer a "Facebook home customization kit" that came with a series of WiFi picture frames and a central controller to keep them synced to your account. I think that a lot of pictures get put on the wall and then we eventually tune them out. If the frames were solar powered and used a colour eInk display they wouldn't require batteries and could update automatically once they had a sufficient charge. So what do you think? Is social media on your walls too creepy, or do you think this is the direction that technology is going? |
